7 Steps to a Pure and Sure Produce

  • Chapter 1: It all begins from the soil

Studies state that the earth loses roughly 23 billion tonnes of soil every year, and if this trend continues, we will be out of fertile soil in the next 150 years. Now that’s a future that we don’t want our children to live in. Hence, our story, like everything organic, begins from the soil.

Conventional agriculture relies extensively on tilling. Tilling is the process of turning over the first 6 – 10 inches of soil before planting new crops. Farmers adopted this method because it allowed them to plant more seeds while expending less effort. Unfortunately, this easy route is doing more harm than good for our soil. It causes erosion,  kills microbes and insects that form healthy soil biology and makes soil a lifeless medium that depends on chemical fertilizers for productivity.

When you choose to tread the organic route, your soil is undisturbed, unploughed, untilled and almost untouched. It’s just as nature wanted it to be. Think of it as a sponge, held together by a unique structure of different soil particles and channels created by roots and soil organisms.

This sponge of soil has all the nutrients deemed for produce that’s pure and sure to be organic. That is our soil and this is where we begin.

  • Chapter 2: You reap what you sow

After preparing the perfect sponge of soil, it’s now time to sow our seeds. Organic seed materials are used for this process along with some harvest from the previous year kept aside by our farmers. Selecting seeds of good quality crop strains is the primary factor here, it makes or breaks the quality of produce.

Pure and Sure runs a nursery division where we produce the best in class organic seeds and planting materials to aid our farmers. This ensures that they get the best quality strains, all the time, every time.

As they say, you reap what you sow and when you sow the best, what you reap is sure to be pure.

  • Chapter 3: Spreading out the goodness

After soil preparation and sowing, it’s now time to spread around some goodness, and when we say goodness, we mean pure, natural goodness. Using only compost manure from the farm waste, our farmers spread out this goodness evenly across our fields.

We help our farmers manufacture their own quality compost by providing compost bins and microorganisms that catalyze the process resulting in fast and effective composting.

After all, good quality compost improves soil and crop health, and we sure don’t want to miss out on that.

  • Chapter 4: The grass is greener here, because we watered it

Just as water is essential to us, it is essential for our crops as well. Since we’re talking organic, the farmer has to additionally ensure that the water being used is free from chemicals, heavy metals and microbiological contamination. They also have to be alert and ensure that there is no cross contamination from other farms.

The Pure and Sure way in this stage is to make sure that all our farmers have enough buffer zones between neighboring farms to avoid cross contamination that would affect our yield.

And that’s why our grass is greener, our crops smarter and our farms better.

  • Chapter 5: Weeding out the blues

Every farm has weeds and the last thing a busy farmer wants to do is waste time. Hence, after planning, sowing, manuring and watering, comes the next chapter - taking these villains out. We call them villains because they affect our farms economically and aesthetically. Economically because they affect the yield and aesthetically because they downgrade the visual appeal of the farm.

A conventional farmer would easily remove them using weedicides which are nothing but harmful chemicals that affect the crop more than the weeds do. However, in organic farming, getting rid of weeds is one of the biggest hurdles.

As they say, with great power comes great responsibility. We take our responsibility seriously by manually removing the weeds at regular intervals. Hard work yes, but shortcuts aren’t what we believe in.

One Pure and Sure way to tackle this is by encouraging farmers to practice multi-cropping in the field which reduces open spaces between the crops where weeds tend to grow.

Thus, we weed out the blues from our clean green farms with manual perseverance and tactical crop planning.

  • Chapter 6: The fruits of labor

This is the happiest chapter of our story, the one where we reap the benefits of our labor. We await this day with arms wide open and hearts full of love, just as parents wait for the arrival of a new born baby. Young saplings are just as vulnerable as new born babies, because it is during harvesting that the crop is most prone to infestation and spoilage.

At Pure and Sure, we train our farmers by equipping them with the right harvesting tools and drying methods which nullify damage to freshly harvested crops.

With meticulous planning from day one, we take in our hands the fruits of our labor every harvest season, with love, light and happiness.

  • Chapter 7: Make room for the clean, green heroes

After the happy season of harvest comes the million dollar question - where do we store the crop to keep it protected from infestation?

A conventional farmer would choose the easy route and spray these new born crops with chemicals, but we don’t think like them.

Pure and Sure ensures that the right kind of infrastructure is at our farmer’s disposal to store crops the correct way. In odd cases where this infrastructure is absent, we procure the harvest from the farms and store them in temperature controlled storage centers.

Striving extra miles if necessary, we make sure that our clean, green heroes are getting the best homes to live in until they reach your plates.

That’s our story. The story of how we tread the organic route, from planning to storage, ensuring that all of our produce is pure and sure to forever be organic, forever be good for you and forever be good for the environment.
